OCCUPATION OR APARTHEID? A necessary interpretive resignification for the Palestinian/Israeli case

Every year, the number of academics and associations that accuse the Israeli state of committing apartheid crimes against humanity grows. Renowned local and international organizations have already adhered to this thesis, as well as academics and special rapporteurs appointed by the UN Human Rights Council. The aim here is to make a comparative and critical survey of the arguments employed in defense of the use of the apartheid typification to define the situation in Palestine/Israel. To this end, we reviewed reports from the past decades written by different associations and eminent academics, noting that there is an emphasis in the given justifications that, in addition to being a legal fact, resorting to the concept of apartheid provokes a change of perspective and a further theoretical deepening, which allows us to integrate violations practiced by Israel on different times and spaces.
