An approach on textbooks used in the History of Maranhão subject in Basic Education aiming to analyze the meanings built for the contents conveyed. To this end, we were based on the principles of the New Sociology of Education through the History of School Subjects by Ivor Goodson and André Chervel. This is a qualitative documentary study, with a dialectical approach method and comparative procedure method. By problematizing the textbooks, the transmutations of the History of Maranhão discipline are evidenced.
