This paper analyzes the poems "Cocanha" and " Viagem a São Saruê", as well as the connotation for the imaginary idea of a Terrestrial Paradise, in which the pleasure, the work absence, and prohibitions are the secret for men's happiness. Cocanha was we written in 13th century and São Saruê in 1978, in the 20th century. Although many centuries separate the poems, we find similarities that help us to conclude that the popular poet native of the northeastern Brazil had knowledge by oral tradition of the medieval country of Cocanha.Downloads
