Abstract: This article aims to analyze the historical process that gradually transformed certain social practices into sexual violence against girls and boys at the legal level. In the first part of the article, we discuss how this process took place in relation to international standards produced by the United Nations (UN) for children, with emphasis on the debates on Article 34 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Subsequently, we verified how the theme of the considered sexual violence was approached in the text of the Statute of the Child and Adolescent, promulgated in 1990, by the Brazilian government.
Keywords: Childhood. Convention on the Rights of the Child. Statute of the Child and Adolescent.
