LITERARY PROVINCE OF THE "NEW": O. G. Rego de Carvalho and the intellectual controversy from Teresina in the mid 20th century

Abstract

In this essay, it is discussed the intellectual action and production by piauiense literate OrlandoGeraldo Rego Carvalho and those by some of his companions – here chosen as a motivation for ananalysis on the cultural transformations lived or experienced by the late 20th century teresinense society –while intending to produce a comparison between the intellectual experience led by those subjects and thecultural changes that occurred in the city, by that time. Among the central issues set to be discussed,emphasis  will  be  given  to  the  polemics  and  debates  initiated  by  the  referred  literate,  keeping  inperspective the changes that occurred in the urban living conditions, as well as the existing relationsbetween those changes and the renovation projects of the piauiense literary production, also elaborated bythat time.
