Abstract

This article discusses aspects of the process of stigmatization on the populations of the urbanperiphery of São Luís- MA, through the analysis of historical and structural constraints related to the formationof the outlying districts, where such people lived. To this end, we identified in the press and discursive symbolicelements associated with the populations of the suburbs during the 1980s and in 2004.
