Abstract

With the Proclamation of the Republic leaders of the diverses oligarchical disagreementes use to advantage to establish its parties. In the Maranhão the situation was not different of the remainder of the Brazil: inthe first years of the Republic (1889 - 1894) four political parties had appeared attacheds to old monarchics leaderships, but now republicans. To the end of this period can be to delineate the Gênese of a new and powerful dominant oligarchy controlled by Benedito Pereira Leite.
