Abstract

This article examines the different strategies of repression used by both the master class as wellas political authorities in the destruction of the maroon communities of Corisco, Sabura, Colégio Novo,Colégio Velho, Retiro Alegre, Coronel and Santo Antonio do Bom Viver; which are collectively knownas the Maroon Communities of Borrachudo. The article, thus, constitutes an historical-anthropologicalreflection on maroon mobilization that takes into account the nature of the social, economic and politicalrelations, which developed in the social universe of runaway slaves that was shared by other socialagents.
