Abstract

Abstract: On the assumption that the movements of 25 April in Portugal and the Diretas Já in Brazil were the most prominent exponents of the mobilise popular in both countries, this article proposes to investigate the (des) paths of the transition processes of the dictatorial regimes towards democracy in Brazil  and  in  Portugal.  Features  in  support  the  idea  that  in  both  countries,  their  transition  plans controlled  "by  the  high"  were  subverted  by  mobilizing  "underneath".  Therefore,  dictatorial  regimes, despite the negotiations developed throughout the process, were defeated by social forces that stepped in and moved the existing forces relationships until then.
