Abstract

This study aims to analyze the educational opportunities available for women during the First Republic in Brazil. Firstly, it identifies, images, discourses and representations about women that sedimented processes of restriction to certain female roles inherited from the Imperial tradition. Subsequently, it outlines possibilities for women emancipation from the educational system and social transformation project of  the Republican Period.
