Abstract

In this paper I analyse the mechanisms used by city agents of São Luís do Maranhão to remain linked to the central powers. I agree with the installation of municipal activities with the policy of conquest and defence of land and problematizo the strategies used by camaristas to take advantage of the proximity to the central power.
