“ATÉ QUE A MORTE NOS SEPARE”: violência de gênero e crimes passionais no Maranhão (1949 -1958)

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss gender violence and crimes of passion that were highlighted in the newspapers of Maranhão in the 1950’s, in special  Pacotilha/The Globo. From the analysis of these dramas, we intend to understand some aspects of the history of men and women involved in sexual relationships and the motivations that led them to the practice of violence against the partner and how love and gender roles contributed to their occurrences.
