Abstract

This paper was focused on the restructure of military institutions in Portuguese America in the secondhalf of Eighteenth Century, with the objective of examine the conjunctures involving Black Militias in thecaptaincy of Minas Gerais during the Luso-Castilian War. Between the decades of 1760 and 1780, Portugalintroduced the practice of recruit individuals coming from those social groups in its domains. In the State ofBrazil many captaincies were forced to adopt those direct solicitations from de Portuguese crown in that period.Each of the captaincies of the State of Brazil had to fulfill those exigencies in the manner that was possible. Thewar in the meridional parts of Portuguese America accelerate the military restructure in the Portuguese domains,but also occasioned the utilization of unprepared troops, conflicts between cities councils and governors, andalso debates about the use of slaves as soldiers.
